The Limitations of Traditional Cold and Hot Peel Transfers

Additionally, cold peel transfers are prone to burning at high temperatures, posing a risk during the transfer process. Some decorators use a two-press method: The first press adheres to the design, while the second press helps the ink settle deeper into the fabric for a smoother finish. However, this additional step can significantly increase production time.

Hot Peel Transfers: While quick to peel, hot peel transfers aren’t necessarily faster to apply. One of the main challenges the industry sees is a lack of color vibrancy — these transfers can look dull compared to cold peel film. Additionally, they may lift off the garment if not pressed at a high enough temperature. On the other hand, if pressed for too long, they can reattach to the transfer paper, leading to inconsistencies in the final product. The water-based adhesive layer in hot peel transfers may also not hold up from excess washings, and poor-quality films often suffer from poor ink absorption, causing smaller letters or fine details to peel.
